A film academy building taken over and turned into a venue. A cinema founded by former resistance members and run by students ever since. A pathology lab converted into a screening room. The city's instinct, when something doesn't fit, has never been to remove it. It's to give it a door.

Amsterdam Underground Cinefest is built on that instinct.

We are an online award for films that are difficult to place. Work that's too strange for the middle of the festival circuit, too specific for distribution, too committed to its own logic to survive a development note. Films made without permission, without a budget, without a market, and often without anyone asking for them.

Entry is deliberately accessible. Choose two or three categories and the jury reads the film across the whole competition. Preliminary outcomes come back in weeks, not months.
